I had an interview for an after school programme and they told me I need to open 2 Korean bank accounts. One will be used to receive the company's pay and commission (they'll take my passport and pin details!) and the other will get my pay in it. It seems very dodgy to me...they went on to say that it was illegal and that if there were any fines they would pay them. But the account would be in my name so its really my responsibility me thinks.

It's all BS. Don' fall for it. Best of all, tell them that you know it's BS and that the word is out that this kind of crap won't go with any foreigners so they might actually stop this.

It's a tax scam that's been around a while now. If you do what they ask you'll end up being responsibile for both yours and their tax payments.

Don't ever give anyone your bank account details and PIN numbers.

DO NOT DO THIS. Even if they say they will do it normally, do not trust these people at all.

To all you out there many recruiters are using the double bank account thing with the after school program , you idiots who say dont do it .

1 have not worked in an after school program

2 dont know what you are talking about

it is up to each individual person if they want to except the job , but for the person who posted this I know who you are .
If you have a North American accent it is ok and easy to get a job but if you dont you are going to have problems getting a job in Korea , teaching
English , good luck for your job hunting .

With the myriad of jobs available, why would anyone do something this sketchy, with people you never met before. It's common sense. There are plenty of other jobs out there, no need to worry about that. Not to mention, there have been others on this site that say differently.

You post is really not very well thought out either.

And NEVER turn in your passport. You are actually braking your own country's regulations with regards to a foreigner holding YOUR passport.
Screw them. LEAVE NOW!!!!

Yikes!

That's one job I wouldn't want.

I hope you didn't hand over your passport. If you did, demand it back.

If they don't return it, go to your embassy and file a formal complaint.

This is one case where the law is on your side and they will intervene and get your passport back for you.

Good luck.

Cheers for the feedback. I am sure you can understand my reasoning for questioning the said topic Clint. I've only been in Korea over a week and know of people who have worked here and been shafted. North American accent...so I guess I can say I know who you are too. But when people who want to employ you actually tell you that something is illegal and you're in a foreign country that you know very little about, it seems reasonable to ask for some advice on the matter. I don't think my lack of North American accent will be a problem though.

Give them your PIN number. The next day change your pin number. When first pay gets deposited in YOUR account. Take it and quit. They even said it was illegal. They're not going to get you a visa specifically for this job...so screw them.

My thought is this...would you do this in North America? Of course, so why do it in korea.
And asking for PIN details....yeah, sure....give me YOUR PIN details and we'll talk!
