My wife is due next year, smack bang in the middle of term. There is no provision in my contract for this and as I don't get sick days, I am expecting to be pinged 70-odd K for each day I take off to be with the missus. I'm just wondering for you proud dads out there, what kind of precedent exists? Were you given a few days paid leave at delivery time, or did you just have to front up for work as usual?

I got a week off when our daughter was born but it was the week before summer holidays started.

Typically teachers in the public system get 3 days off as a special leave.

If you are in a hakwon, then it is whatever you can negotiate.

I had a couple of other teachers cover for me - I was gone for three days worth of classes.

I'm in a private school. Generally conditions are similar to the public system, but with a few differences. I'm gonna ask the Korean teachers tomorrow what their experiences have been, the two that have children anyhow.

I got 3 weeks off with pay but my employer is a very reasonable person.

Most guys I know got between a week and 10 days off.

Paternity leave is not standard here.

In your situation it will be a negociation and I hope it works out well for you and your wife!

Cheers
