i am looking to get out of seoul next weekend. i've not yet been anywhere else in korea. where is a good place to go that is fairly cheap? thanks for the help.

If you want touristy, gyeongju is great for culture. Gangwan-do is great for nature

thanks for the info. i was thinking maybe gyeongju, or maybe daegu, or both if that's do-able. daegu probably more to try out the ktx than anything.

Since there really isn't anything else in Daegu. I guess you could probably KTX to Daegu then bus to Gyeongju. Actually that might be about the same time as taking the slow train. Gyeongju is really nice. If you go, be sure to hit up Seokguram (big buddha in a cave), Bulguksa (biggest temple in Koea), and I thought Anapji Pond was nice and peacful. Not sure how you get to all those places without a car though.

There's buses out to all those spots. Buses 10 or 11 take you out to Bulguksa and then if you want you can take a bus to Seokguram from the parking lot of Bulguksa. Easy enough though not as speedy as owning a car. Info booth in town or at Bulguksa can help you out too.
