On a recent ep of the Penn Radio Show, there was talk about PS3s going on ebay for $5,000-$6,000. Lots of people were standing in line just so they could buy a couple and flip it. People were actually selling their places in line for the price of a PS3 retail.

A quick search of ebay I couldn't find any going for 5 large but I did see this one that just ended for easily double the PS3 retail.

I dunno. I'd be happy to wait until the new year.

But paying $6,000. Geez. All to keep your little emperors happy. I'd personally blow that wad on a no expense spared trip to, say, Disney World. "Hey kids we're staying for a week in the Contemporary Resort!" with a promise to buy them the frickin' PS3 in February. If it came to that.

I'd sell the kid, use the cash to buy the PS3 directly. Two birds, one stone, my man.

It's lame and dumb to the extreme. Nintendo has it right and is going to wipe Sony out. I mean, it's $750 cdn after tax retail. Who in their right mind needs (or is stupid enough) to pay that much to play video games.
We have children without medical care and starving in first-world countries. There are thousands of people dying from hunger eveyday in the world. What do we do? We pay $750 to play video games and some pay upwards of $2000. Simply idiotic.

One has to bear in mind the specifications of the PS3. It is the cheapest system out there to support blue-ray. Most blue-ray players are double the asking price of the PS3.

I am thinking of getting one, only problem is that I'm not seriously into games.

Many people buy new computers to play games, and a top end machine can cost far more than a PS3. I imagine you'll say that you can use your computer for other things, but I could say the same about a PS3. Also, people often upgrade their machines far sooner than they otherwise would because of games. As far as non-gaming applications, I'd guess outside fo gaming, that 95% (or more) of people gain no real benefit from upgrading machines more frequently than every five years (or more), yet I think the average upgrade time is about two years. Compared to what PC gamers pay to support their habit, a new console every five years is nothing, even at 400-600 per hit.

That was the PS2's original selling point back when a DVD player was $500. Lots of grown men justified the purchase to their wives becaues it could play DVD movies.

oh and by the way, people that buy computers for gaming are life wasters and are much worse than people that buy incredibly expensive video game machines. If you argue against it...you're a life waster.

Overzealous eBayer drops $900 for "Sony PlayStations, 3 of them"

I suspect the price of PS3 is going to fall anytime soon. Sony is already selling it a far less margin (actually loss) than its contemporary boxes. Its going to create a demand, supply lesser quantity and keep the prices high. My take.
