Well, after three years, my little Sony Handycam has bitten the dust. Works fine for playback but for recording I just get a black screen. For a while it was sensitive to being moved around and the screen would flicker. Now, it's just dead.
Question: Should I buy a new camera or is this worth repairing?
Question: If I go for a repair, where should I head for a quick repair (I'm away this Christmas and want the camera) bearing in mind I've no warranty any more?
Question: If I go for a new one, should I head back to Sony? I was kind of hoping the camera would last more than three years really! Any other recommendations for small Mini-DV cameras?
Cheers for the informative replies I know you dudes will provide... |

Well a little nosing around on the web let me know that this is a manufacturer's error with this model of Handycam (TRV22) and that Sony are repairing this for free until Oct 2007.
Took me a while to find the A/S centre for Sony as it is NOT where their website said the Yongsan Sony shop was. After some help from the guys in the Canon building I located in in B1 of the Cheonja Land (or whatever that building is called).
Handed over said cam, exposed my shameful Korean and voila, come back in two hours she said. Couldn't unfortunately so I'll be picking up my repaired cam on Friday.
Pain that it's Sony's fault but full marks for them repairing it. Oh, and they didnt even ask me where I'd bought it so if you've bought it overseas, no worries. I bought mine in Japan. |
