I need to plan a trip during the winter vacation. I need help on where to go. Give me ideas please.
I'm thinking Thailand, Tokyo, or Hong Kong. Any recomendations?
Where have you been? Have you liked the most. What about costs during this time of year? |

Been to all 3 (several times).
A lot depends on how much time your vacation is.. if its a long vacation.. definetely Thailand. So many options from there.
If its short.. then HK or Tokyo is more convenient for shorter trips.. but wintertime.. personally I'd prefer Hong Kong in the winter.
All are interesting on different levels.. 'Thailand' is where your Korean Won is going to the farthest as you specified that in particular. |

In terms of direct flights from Incheon - it really comes down to price range and how much you are willing to pay.
For 400,000 - 499,000 won - Only the closest places:
Hong Kong, Taipei, Qingdao, Fukuoaka, Kaohsiung.
For 500,000 - 599,000 won - Fairly close places:
The rest of mainland China, the rest of Japan, Saipan, Guam, Macau, Hainan.
For 600,000 - 699,000 won - Places further afield:
Vietnam, Malaysia, Vladivostok, Phillipines, Bali, Cebu, Subic, Khabarovsk, Mongolia, Urumqi, Utaphao, Kota Kinabalu.
For 700,000 - 799,000 won - Places about 6-8 hours away:
Thailand, Singapore, India, Tashkent, Almaty, Cambodia, Laos, Penang, Phuket.
For 800,000 - 899,000 won - Places quite a long way away:
Moscow, Honolulu, Darwin, Dubai, Doha, Istanbul, Fiji.
For 900,000+ - Everywhere else:
Continental Europe, America, Australia and beyond. |

Because Tokyo can be COLD in the winter?
HongKong has great sites to visit, great shopping, affordable, easy reach to Macau (1 hour jetfoil 20k won), NOT FREEZING (but can get chilly), international flavor and good nightlife. |

Shanghai AND Hong Kong is a good idea. You can do both in a week. There are relatively cheap hotels in both, especially Shanghai, or you can sleep at Hostels, and rough it a bit.
Weather wise, Thailand might be a welcome reprieve and feel fantastic.
If money is an issue, and it's a two week trip, rule out Tokyo. it's the most expensive city in the world. |

Ok, now I'm leaning on either Thailand OR Xian, shanghai and Honk Kong. Anyone else wanna give me some advice. Tokyo is out because I think I'll go when its warmer out there. On www.whypaymore.co.kr it looks like there is a trip to Thailand for 329,000W. Is that even possible?? I cant really read Korean so well so I dont want to get my hopes up. Please dont book this flight before I can! haha. I MEAN IT |

Shanghai is a beautiful city but there wasnt a lot to do there IMO. I hear the nightlife and shopping is good but I didnt go there to do either of those anyway!
Xian can be seen in a few days, we spent just one night there and saw almost everything on a tour.
I havent been to Hong Kong or Thailand, though if I had the time and money Id be going to Thailand and traveling there and maybe another country as well.
Have fun.... so jealous!
PS: Ive never had culture shock in Korea in 1.5 yrs, but I did int he week I spent in China. |

If I go to Xian without a tour guide do you think I'll still enjoy it? I dont want to miss out. I was just thinking of seeing the stone warriors. What else is there to see? |

Why are are so adamant to visit all these cold places in winter?
Canceling Tokyo and putting Xian in its place.. its just another cold place in winter.
Stick with southeast asia (i.e. Thailand) in winter.. HK is equally fine, but two weeks is way too much for HK.
Thailand is an entire country with a lot of options.. particularly for a two-week holiday. It is also one of the easiest countries for travel. Very elaborate tourism industry that far surpasses anywhere else. Once you get to know Thailand.. you can branch out to countless other nearby options from there. |

I went to China (including Xi'an and Shanghai) in July and it was incredible. You can easily do Xi'an without a tour guide and there's quite a bit to do there though the city was extremely hot while we were there.
A Chinese friend told me it was best to go there in the summer because of the higher pollution in the winter caused by wood burning for heat.
Singapore and Malaysia including Indonesia or Thailand might be a nice hot getaway - Singapore Airlines offers a group rate (two or more people) of W589 total which includes a flight to and from Incheon to Singapore, and a flight from Malaysia to Singapore (assuming you land in Singapore, head north, then want to head south for the return flight). |

I enjoyed my time in China but found the days where I had a tour guide to communicate and help me out waaaay better than the days alone. We were only there for a short time though (one week, 3 cities). I did a tour in Xian, the tour guide was terrific. Though of all the places we went, the only place that I would say absolutely do not miss is the warriors. Keep in mind though, that they are about 30km out of the city. There is also a wall around the city (oldest in China) and I heard you can hire bicycles and ride around the top.... Id have liked to do that.... |
