| Anyone know if Nonghyup bank has an English line I can call. Preferably toll free. I live in the sticks. -Jeff |

Why are you so cheap?
Phone calls are cheap as chips in this country.
I don't know that Nonghyup has an English line anyway. |

Just go to the website: http://www.nonghyup.com
There's a phone number at the bottom. Try calling it. When they answer, speak English. If the person at the other end doesn't speak English, I'm sure they can find somebody that does. It's a big company. At some point someone will be able to help you with whatever you need. |

I'll look again but I think that's the one with the touch tone phone menu and I couldn't tell if there was an English option. -Jeff |

I thought it would be rude to make a long distance call from someone else's phone even if it is inexpensive. -Jeff |

| If you can't find an English line, call the Changnyoung branch. The guy there at the foreign exchange desk speaks good English. (His speaking is better than his listening skill, so slow it down an octave or so so he can keep up, but if you do, he's great.) |

I went to my local branch and asked her for an English phone number. I guess she couldn't read where I wrote "phone number" above the hangul because she wrote out phone number on my paper. I repeated phone number and English a couple of times and she figured it out and gave me a couple of numbers to call.
She noticed I had a phrase about buying money orders and I had told her to ignore it while doing the phone number thing but since she seemed to have some English ability I complimented her on her English and asked about a money order. She called one of the numbers on the sheet and handed me the phone.
The woman told me to go to KEB. Done with that. -Jeff |

I'd be very surprised if they did. When I lived in Ilsan, Nonghyup Bank was a terrible choice to make as a foreigner, for every reason a foreigner could want a bank account. If you have any choice at all and are sort of new to Korea, I'd suggest getting a different bank account, one at Woori or KBstar.
Ilsan Nonghyup bank branches, my local one and the local major branch, both refused to do wire transfers for any reason even after calls and documentation from my employer.
An English line, I'd guess, is highly improbable.
Don't mean to hijack the thread, but if anybody can do wire transfers home with this bank, I'd like to know about it (e.g. where) I'm thinking the answer is no. |

| Nonghyup is actually where it's at for a bank. They seem to be one of the few (if not only?) banks in Korea that will give you an international ATM card that you can use overseas. I had to go to the one downtown (talking about Cheonan here) to get one. You may have to find a head branch or something. Ask around. |

Do you have an F-series visa or do you have an E-2? |

I managed to get an International ATM at Nonhyop with no problem and a regular one for using around town. The problem is finding a person who can speak english at the bank to help you with the process. It's probably the same with other banks. |
