This has happened to me twice now!
A university in Busan has called offering me an interview, but when I told them that I work 10am-6pm, but I had some small windows of time to get to the interview, or that I could make it weekends, I haven't heard ANYTHING back - like they just break contact!
For one I even promised them I could arrange cover so I could take time off to make it to the interview!
Is it standard for universities to offer you an interview, then never to be heard from again? |

I guess they didn't love you that much. If they did they would have been a bit more flexible and accepted your suggestions.

| Most universities have a ton of applicants and on paper most of those people look about the same. Most of those people will go out of their way for the university so there's no real motivation for the university to go out of its way for applicants. |

Pretty much what beaver said.
When we hired last year we had many applicants and in a case such as yours we would have simply moved on to someone who was available for interviews....that is how it works. |

I mentioned to them in the same email giving the times that I was available for interview that I could arrange cover allowing me to go to interview at any time. Is that really so bad? I was willing to sacrifice my pay and go to the trouble of finding a replacement for the time I would miss at my school.
on the plus side I have just received a very frank and honest email from a person in PNU concerning why I can't get in at PNU next year. I asked the person concerned whether I could post his reply here on Dave's, and if he allows I think it will make for very interesting reading for those either working in universities currently or those wishing to apply. |

Well..spyro,
If the university had many applicants of similar caliber then one complication is all that makes the difference sometimes!
As for the PNU comment...I would make sure that this person has to right to speak for the university....also what will posting the response achieve?
He or she will be aware that you posted this (since you asked) and it might get back around to you (assuming you intend to show how wrong they are) when applying to other universties in Busan comes along... |

So you didn't get an interview. $hit happens all the time. Homer is right they moved on. This isn't something unique to Korea. I have worked in the real world long before Korea. I have called about interviews and they say they will get back to me and they don't. Found someone better, cheaper or with more flexible schedule.
No biggie just move on to the next one.
