Cutting smoking won't cheat the Reaper: study

Quote:
Smokers who believe they can avoid fatal disease by slashing the number of cigarettes they smoke each day are badly mistaken, according to a study which says the only safe way out of the risk is to quit.

Long-term research conducted among more than 50,000 Norwegians found that men who halved their daily consumption of cigarettes were as likely to die of cardiovascular disease, reduced blood flow to the heart or cancer as heavy smokers.

The same study was released last year by the anti-smoking propogandists. My sister sent it to me saying that even as a light smoker I was a great risk. I replied that since coming to Korea I've become a heavy smoker, and am relieved to see that my risk of getting lung cancer hasn't increased as a result.

The real problems between non-smokers and smokers is this:

One group seems to think it's important to live as long as possible- regardless of whether the quality of life you are going to get at the age of 97 when you are leaving steaming piles in a bed pan and are having the nurse knock you off for fifty bucks in moments of lucidity, before you turn into a drooling mess who can't even shower by themselves, or even recognise simples shapes without being prompted, is actually worth it; and the other group doesn't give a doddle.

Life, especially at the end, is a turd of a place. I'm off for a smoke.

Rugged individualists that they are.

You know how it is:

It's just like chickenpox. It's better to get it while they're young.
