Hi
For anyone who's been to Geckos for Thanksgiving before, or some other place you might want to recommend...
I don't eat seafood, beef, pork, lamb, etc.
I do eat turkey (but I'm disgusted by the quality of meat I find in Korea. Do they import turkey meat, if so from where, and will it actually be turkey breast, or scary parts of turkey?) But before I fork over a load of money, I want to make sure the menu will have enough for me to eat. They often put sausage or animal flavoring in stuffing, so I'm worried about that too. What else is on the menu? Is it Koreanized Thanksgiving food, or is it just what you'd find back home?

I had dinner last year at Gecko's. I only like white meat and they had plently of it. I don't know if it was imported but it seemed alright to me and I'm fairly fussy. The stuffing was a bread stuffing..I don't know if there was any "animal flavoring" but you could probably ask the cook. |

Geckos imports only free range vegetarian turkeys directly from Whole Foods or Fresh Fields in the Washington, DC area of the US and A. Similarly, the stuffing is flavored with tofurky boullion cubes rather than actually stuffed into the bird and baked as it has traditionally been done for a couple hundred years. Kimchee is not allowed anywhere on the buffet, but there will be leg and thigh meat available for dark meat lovers (is that a "scary" part of the turkey?) |

Thank you. Well, yeh, I don't eat leg and thigh meat and will just try not to look at it, but I can understand why they might have it available. Thanks for the information. Do you know if the soybeans used in the boullion cubes are organic?
You just gave yourself away as being from Canader, Australie, or the U and K by your trifling with the US and A. |

In response to the stuffing being stuffed inside the turkey and baked. It is wrong to stuff a bird with stuffing and then roast it. According to chef knowledge, the proper way to prepare stuffing is to make it separately and then, after the bird is roasted, you can toss it inside for show. I forget the reason for this - perhaps contamination issues? Anyone know? |

All kinds of issues on this one. The first would be it tastes better, you can do a lot more with it and the final product is far better presentation wise than wet, packed stuffing that you'll grab out of a turkey's ass. If you're a 'real' cook, presentation will be big, and that is the deciding factor.
Contamination is an issue, though, not one that's a big concern. |
