ok, so the subject title is a bit deceiving, or maybe it's an insight into how your mind works.
Winter is here, thanksgiving, xmas is a month away. It's the time for a bit of reflection and rememberance.
So... do you all remember the very first day you were let loose into a classroom? How was it? Share your experiences with the rest of us.
My first day was full of panic and I seriously did not have a clue what i was doing. Fortunately my students were well behaved except for one smart ass that corrected my British spelling of colour to the American way (color). I found it a bit tough explaining that they are both correct but had to admit that american english is more widely used. Overall, not as tough as i thought it would be. and seriously, what is up with the ass poking thing?? |

My first day was rough.
I was studying abroad and found out that my student loan was only going to be half what I thought that semester. Living expenses were cut because I was overseas. Anyways, when my money was starting to get tight, I e-mailed every language school in the city asking if they needed a teacher. At that point I have never done any teaching. One private school wrote back and asked me to come by for an interview. After 10 minutes talking to the owner, they offered me a job and said to come back the next week.
So, next week I showed up on time, expecting to sit in on some classes to see what was up, and what I should be doing. To my horror, the owner just said, "Welcome, go teach!". Go teach? They were expecting me to teach lessons that very first day with no prep, no instruction. I was a nervous wreck the first lesson, and I just tried to make conversation with the students and get them talking. By the end of the day (4 lessons), I felt solid From there on I just made quick lesson outlines for the day and all went well. Only one time I got into some trouble when I found out another teacher had already used the same material in a previous lesson, so I had to improvise. |

My first day. Got off a plane at 10:30 pm, travelled +3 hours to my city, arrived at maybe 2:30 Am. First class 9am. I was crouched down in front of some little girl, (maybe 9 yrs old), lost my balance, and did a face plant in her lap. |
