| Well, I guess what I'm more interested in is what do they want to hear in interviews when asked this question. I usually freeze up a bit when I get this one. I am particularly interested in universities, what do they want to hear? |

Yeah, that's one of those dreaded questions. Another one for me is how do you discipline students?
I suppose you could make up some answer designed to impress and help you get the job, but to me it wouldn't feel authentic as I really do not have good answers to questions like these. I doubt many people do. I think the answer depends on the class situation. Your "style" changes depending on age and ability of students, topic or subject matter, number of students in class. To give a good and specific answer you'd need to choose a specific situation. |

I teach at a university. I would tell them that I focus on building learning autonomy and awareness of learner styles and strategies using activities that focus on fluency more than accuracy. My classes are energetic with all activities based on sound pedegogical theory.
Next semester I'm planning on video taping a number of my lessons and then editing the video so that when I apply for a new position I'll be able to show them the answer rather than just tell them. |

I'm kind of the Coach McGuirk style
| Quote: |
Coach McGuirk: [drunk] You wanna know something? *Anyone* can become a soccer coach. Like, they don't regulate. Like you have to get a degree, right? So you're qualified.
Nurse Kirkman: Yes... I do have a degree.
Coach McGuirk: Yeah, I'm not. You can become coach, of a sport that you don't care about, you don't know how to play, you're not good with kids. But I have had the job for three years. You'd think that they would check up but they don't. |

I teach in a hagwon, so it might be different from where you will teach
But anyway....
I encourage chaos in the first few minutes and then spend the rest of the class discouraging it
It works well if you dont have any teaching materials |

I'm usually honest when I get this question: "Whatever style you want"
And by "honest" I mean, I lie to them so I can get the job and do the required work I have to in the classroom while trying to keep the kids from quitting so I can keep getting a paycheck.
Cuz lets face it, the boss only cares that the tuition keeps coming in anyway.
You may call this cynical, I call it, "Knowing how the hagwon industry works"
I can't see an adults only hagwon being much different. |
