1/ I heard from this nuther guy that 5000 foreigners were deported
yesterday and they are going to try and double that figure today!!!
Is this true?
2/ What kind of visa do I need to teach illegally?
3/ Do you know any deported foreigner here in Korea that I can
talk to? Did it hurt?
4/ I heard from this nuther nuther guy that immigration in other
cities will find you privates, girlfriends and smoke. All you have
to do is ask. Is this true??? |

Yeah, it's all true, if your smoking crack......
And you don't need any visa to teach illegally. |

since i think there are only like 12,000 teachers here legally, i doubt they deported 5000 and another 5,000 soon, that would mean almost half, atleast, of all teachers here are illegal...
maybe it is becaues i work in a small town and in a school, but i have never met an illegal teacher here. i am sure they are here, but i really dont think half of us are illegal |

In my just over a year in Korea, I have only met 2 people that were illegal (at least based on what they told me!) One Nigerian guy and one guy from Canada doing privates on a tourist visa. Where are all these supposed illegals? |

I think there is a lot less then 12k teacher in SK.
Last year the number was like 8k
nm Found an article that was saying that there were only 6k efl teachers in SK in 2005.
I seriously doubt that there are 12k teacher in 2006. |

I heard it was ....ahhhh...ahhhh....ahhhhhh......8,000 teachers yesterday.
If you are going to pull crazy numbers out of your butt at least make them a little sensible. |

I really hope ALL of you who replied above took my OP as a joke.
If you didn't you have serious problems.
However there is one person who shall remain nameless who wrote:

This post was actually a sarcastic reply to an earlier post:

With all the recent rumours of a massive immigration crackdown on foreigners working in Korea, I wanted to sift through the misinformation out there and clarify a few issues while posing some questions:
1. I heard recently that over 250 foreigners were deported for engaging in employment without the proper visa documents (both full time and part time employment). Any truth to this claim?
2. What exactly is the status needed to engage in part time employment? Does one need permission submitted to immigration from the employer on one's visa?
3. Does anyone know someone who has been deported? If so, what is the process? How long do they have to leave Korea? Is the individual fined (how much)? Are they detained if the fine is not paid? Can they re-enter Korea again?
4. Another post claimed that some immigration locations outside of Seoul are less stringent and controlled when leaving Korea. If there any truth to these claims?
Disclaimer: It is important for me to completely understand the laws of any country that I reside in to prevent possible misinterpretations and misunderstandings. Any credible information and knowledge would be greatly appreciated. |
