I'm in the process of searching for jobs and negotiating contracts. I want to try and make some extra cash and do maybe one part time gig. I already know that you have to get permission from the school that you work at and then go down to immigration and fill out some paperwork and pay a fee to do it legally. I was wondering what the best way was about asking schools this when looking for full time work. Are many of the schools turned off when you say you want to work part time somewhere else? Will this hurt my chances of finding a good full time job? I'm interested in hearing from other people who have been able to get permission from their school to let them work part time somewhere else and how they were able to negotiate it. I would appreciate any and all feedback. Wink

I wouldn't bring up part time work until you've actually established yourself at the school, and built a good working relationship with your director.

It might be a good idea to discuss right away your desire to work a part time job. If the director or owner agrees, make sure to get it in writing before you sign the contract. The downside of waiting and developing a relationship is that they may say no later on, which could sour your relationship with them. Then again, you could just do it behind their back. Be prepared for the consequences though
