|
|
I've had enough of recruiters and just want to go to South Korea and get a job myself, preferably in Seoul. I have a UK passport and live in South Africa so I think I can just arrive and I'll be allowed to stay as a tourist for 90 days. But these are the things I need to know :
(1) Do I have to buy a return air ticket or can I buy a ferry ticket to Japan, or something like that? I want to do this as cheaply as possible.
(2) Do I need a letter from a friend inviting me to stay, or proof that I've booked accommodation somewhere? Ideally, I'd just like to arrive and then find somewhere to crash.
(3) Do I really need bank statements for the last six months? I've had a bank account for 2 months but for once in my life actually have some money at the moment, at least enough to get me by for the next month or so in South Korea.
(4) Do I really need a police clearance certificate from (a) the country of my birth and (b) my country of residence?
Any helpful advice would be very much appreciated. |

If you have UK passport, you don't need return ticket

You don't need any proof. On you entry form that they pass out in the plane, you just write "Hyatt Hotel in Seoul, Korea". Don't even need confirmation.

Nope.

Nope.

ChuckECheese, you've just made my day. The Korean Embassy in South Africa told me I'd have to obtain all the things I mentioned above, but I had a feeling they were going overboard a bit. Thanks very much for making my life a bit simpler! |

It depends on the airline. Theoretically, you need a return ticket if you don't have a job lined up. I am British and flew with emirates on a one-way ticket and on the day they asked me to present to them a ticket for exit from korea. They wouldn't let me check in unless I had one so i had to buy a ticket to japan. When i got to seoul, i went to the emirates office and got a refund. Took a few days but had no problems getting the refund. So, just be sure to keep the check in person sweet and they might let you board without the same complications i had. |
