Does anyone know the Korean word for "international traveller's cheques"? I'm guessing it's 국재여행수표, but my Korean's not the best.

Also, where would be the best place to get them?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

여 행자수표....most places only have american ones so that is what they will give you but you do get a better rate on traveller's cheques than cash.

Be careful with traveller's checks issued in Korea. I was told at the bank before my recent trip to Thailand that many Koreans were having trouble cashing the traveller's checks abroad for fear that they are counterfeit.

That being said, I had no problems cashing mine, although the lady working at the exchange place I went to in Phuket took a long hard look and spent 10 minutes on the phone to check the traveller's checks authenticity.

Also, I've only ever used VISA traveller's checks.

Well, I'm not going to Thailand, I'm going to Canada. Does anyone know anything about problems cashing them in Canada? I've done it before without problems, but that was quite a while ago.

Any comments would be appreciated.

And if you cash your travelers checks in Korea, they'll rip you off with the commission. My mother was essentially robbed of 5000-10000 won everytime she went to exchange her travelers checks here, regardless of the amount she was exchanging (5 or 10$ is a lot of chash when you're just exchanging 50-100$). The bank 'forgot' to tell her of the ridiculously high fees.
