I've had a navel piercing now for 8 years, but I've never taken it out, and I don't know how to!!!!!!!!!! It's just a simple metal hoop with a ball bearing connecting it together. Are they supposed to unscrew, or can you pull it apart? I've tried both, but it's not working. I really don't want to go to a piercing shop for help. Anyway, the piercing is really irritating me (due to my ever-expanding gut). If I still can't remove the piercing, do you think the piercing can possibly tear Sad ? I just turned 8 months pregnant, so the piercing is just going to get more and more irritated. Maybe using some ointment will help? My husband really wants to get some kind of metal cutter, but there must be a better solution...

Sad

If its the type I'm thinking of you can't unscrew them. You will probably need something like some pliers or just go to a piercing shop.. If you are friendly they would probably take it out for free.

you'll need pliers. I had one of those in my ear and it got infected. Was a bitch to get out.

Since we have pierced people here, who's had problems in korea with piercings.
I've gotten a fair amount of strange questions.
The worst, i met a family and hung out with them for the day, at the end of the day, the father began driving me to a metro until he pulled over and started chatting with me ("let's have cigarette," he said). He started asking me about my earing and then out of the blue goes "have you ever seen brokeback mountain?" and shit just got uncomfortable.

periwinkle,
if you have some latex gloves you can pop the bead out, it's just a matter of having enough of a grip. every piercing shop i've ever been to has been happy to remove a piercing for free. it's a 2 minute job.
as for whether or not it'll tear as your belly grows, it shouldn't. i've had a few pregnant friends with navel piercings and they didn't seem to have any problems beyond what you're experiencing. the worst that could likely happen is that it might grow out which isn't painful, not like a tear!

slep, strange piercing stories...
the first time i got demoli at the sauna (being scrubbed by an adjuma), i was laying there all quiet and relaxed with a towel over my face. i heard a bit of commotion and voices, so i took a look. there were about 5 or so women gathered around looking at my bits and my nips! they were pointing, giggling, speculating, and the demoli adjuma did a bit of poking, prodding and pulling. it could have been hot... but it wasn't.
the last time i went to get waxed, the estheticians took one look at me, looked at each other, and one said "you like girls." it was a bit hotter than the adjumas, but then they put hot wax on my bits and proceeded to rip out all of my pubic hair, so it wasn't. i'm not too sure what their logic was on that deduction...
rss Cool

Good info- I never thought about the latex. It's hard to get a grip on the damn thing! I didn't realize that there are types that can't be removed, either. I might have to make a trip to a piercing shop after all....

I had to go to a shop to get my tongue ring taken out the first time, but it was the twisty kind, just screwed too tight and I couldn't do it myself. You probably have the kind with the ball that "pops" out, but it may require pliers. It's very hard to do for yourself, but your husband probably could with pliers. Unless it's a really thick gauge, the pliers could probably bend the ring.

If it's infected, you should clear up the infection first, and then remove it, or it will scar. At least that's what my piercist (piercer?) told me when he did my nipples. I would recommend a good place to go here if I knew one -it's best to ask the professionals, but I don't know one here (please post if you do, because I need a new set myself).

When I went for my company physical and had to remove my shirt, the girls gasped out loud and dropped the clipboard. Then she lauged and said, "I suprising!" I thought she was really cute (in a heterosexual kind of way). I always warn doctors and dentists in the U.S., so they aren't shocked, but I don't know the word for breast in Korean.

Wow, I just figured out the the site will beep out breasts in the plural sense with an "s", but leave it alone in the singular (breast). Interesting.

Look under "CBR" (captive bead ring). They're easy to open, I've never had a problem with mine (and my navel is 12 gauge which is a bit thicker than the standard 16 or 14 gauge).

If you would like to keep the piercing, you can add thicker gauge rings as your belly gets bigger. I don't know if you like the look of stretched piercings though. Think of it this way: Imagine a block of cheese. A thin piece of metal will slice through the cheese, but a thicker one won't. Piercings are the same way, the thicker the gauge, the harder it will be for it to reject. With your tummy growing you either need to take it out, or add a larger gauge ring in.

Hope that helped! Very Happy

I got mine (lip ring) out without pliers... and haven't been able to get the ball back in since. So, on a related note, does anyone know where I can get a pair of pliers to put the ball back in?

http://www.body-piercing-jewellery.com/

Do a search ("body piercing search" on the left side of the page, then "search" at the top when the new table opens) on "closer" and the ring closers will pop up.

This company is awesome to order from. I get my shipments within 5 days everytime I order. Last time it came in 2 days!
