I tried to post this over in the linguist discussion board but couldn't log in there.

Does anyone know of an authoritive text in pedagogy? Preferably something that's been revised a few times with a number of contributors. Also something that's not value - laden with leftist or socialist political theory. (yawn) A quick google search didn't get me very far.

I did a grad degree in analytic philosophy and for a number of years have been under the illusion that I knew enough about this subject.

The ESL texts sometimes seem either a little simplistic or too theoretical. Theory is good when teaching theory as long as it's critical, but is there anything that tries to take a more practical approach?

I'd be grateful for any advice. Flamers are also welcome.
