I would like to know if anyone has to teach the Korean staff at his/her elementary school and if so, if it is part of the 22 teaching hours or if it is overtime.
I signed for 6 months (until March 2007) at an elementary school in Gyeonggi province, near Gwangju. At first, they wanted me to teach 22 hours plus 2 hours for the staff. I told them that in no way I would teach more than 22 hours and if they wanted me to teach the staff, they would have to include that in the 22 hours. The principal said that since it was only for a 6-month contract, she would forget about it.
Now, I recently heard that my principal is likely to go to a different school next school year. I believe I will sign again with my current school, if the conditions are good, but I don't know if I will sign a new contract with her before she leaves or with the new principal. Whichever it is, I'd like to have an idea of what's what in other schools in case they come back again with the idea of me teaching the Korean staff. |

At our school we do teach the Korean teachers and it is part of the 22 hours. We are in Gwangju-city, Gyeonggi-do. If it exceeds our 22 hours of class then we get the overtime allowance for it.

It's included in my 22 hours. I just use my middle school lesson plans (the more difficult ones) and shoot the sh!t with them with any time left over. It is a complete waste of time.
Most learn a little or a lot, but it is easy to know which ones are coming because it is mandatory. |

| Thank you all for the information, which should be very useful if the principal still has it in mind to ask me to teach the staff "over" my 22 hours with the kids. |
