뭐? I can't really follow the logic on that one.

Yeah, that was a funny quote. Smile I've gotten the same attitude from a few people, though.

the 20 seized hens were spread among the activists "from here to Foxton".

It's all well and good that the hens are now free, but who is going to take care of these hens now? What does 'spread among the activists from here to Foxton' mean? These activists, with their scoff-law break and enter philosophy, may well end up in the clink and are certainly not good role models for impressionable hens. Who will look after the hens if the group decides tuna are more important? Who's going to see that they get fed every day? Who is going to see that they get dressed and off to school every morning? An illiterate hen is a sad sad thing to see.

And why were only hens rescued? What about the roosters? Don't roosters deserve to be free, too? It looks to me like this animal rights group has some gender-bias issues that need to be dealt with.

To answer a few of your questions, Ya-ta Boy, I think the article makes it clear that the activists only rescued as many birds as they could provide safe, permanent homes for. The hens' brothers were probably all killed at the hatchery, while they were still babies. Sad And I don't know if the activists will be good role models for the hens, but I think they're great role models for other humans. Way to go, activists!

Nice to see that you're reading these Animal Liberation Front (and related) stories with so much interest.

Very Happy Excellent stuff red dog. I think it's a bloody disgrace that that sort of barbaric thing is still going on. The farmer should be stuffed in a small box himself for several days, and see if he still feels it's the fabulous lifestyle that he w@nks off about. As a child I lived on a farm and our hens overran the place sqawking and clucking and reeking havoc all over the show, and I can't bear to think of hens any other way. When we felt like boiled eggs, we'd visit them in the barn (where they were free to come and go) and sneak our hands under them and nick off with their booty. I refuse to buy eggs now unless they've been laid by hens that are allowed to run amok in a big area and do all the henny penny things that their ancestors did before them for millions of years. But you have to be very careful, as many companies will try to trick you into thinking their hens are more 'free range' than they really are.

I applaud the hen theives - right on I say! Cool

You mean you didn't ask them if you could eat their unborn chicks? How barbaric of you! And then to boil an innocent unborn chick. You are sick.

Shocked

Oh my god! They lie about hens being 'free range'? What is this world coming to? I always go by the addage: If your chicken feels good, so can you (but not until).

Uh huh. That's what I expect from a liberal. Applaud those that break the law because there's something you disagree with. Brilliant. Rolling Eyes

I don't see what liberalism (or anything else) has to do with it. The activists broke the law to protect the innocent. Are you saying you'd never break any law for any reason? What if committing an illegal act was the only way to save a member of your family?

Something which conservatives, certainly, have never, ever done.
