|

I have a friend who is interested in a cat. She saw some cats, and they were certain expensive breeds such as Siamese and Persian. The prices we were quoted was 250,000 Won. I do not know the normal price of said cats. At any rate, is there an SPCA or some kind of Korean humane society where one can see available cats that one can adopt? What can one find in Seoul? What are the prices out there?
Are their good vets?
Thank you...
Happy Chuseok |

Yea there are cats available here. For Sale has strays now and then. Pet stores sell them and there are a few shelter type organizations. |

I found my cat wandering around at my university in the summer when they were kinda closed. She's mental though. I don't recommend wild ones. She was a kitten then though. Now she's a mental cat. Sometimes cute though.
My local Carrefour had a cat until they moved her up to the Oriental health clinic (she's in bottles now.. good for arthritis and stamina). My local E-Mart had a ferret for a while.. it's not there any more.. it was probably good for health too. |

Please, please adopt an animal from a local shelter-sadly they are very overcrowded here. Try Dave's Doghouse (they occasionally have cats) or contact KAPS in Daegu. PM me if you have any problems finding their contact info. |

You can fing out about CINDY run by Dave on www.expat-advisory.com. Click on CINDY and they have pictures and info about animals needing homes. It seems to be mostly dogs.
I adopted a street cat he was great just started feeding the cats outside my house and he became really friendly and I looked after him. Unfortunately he was run over.
Dr Kwon at Chunwha animal hospital in Itaewon is great. He's also helpful if u want to take ur pet back to your home country and need id tagging, shots etc. |

My friends like cats and dogs, but she decided on a cat. CINDY only has dogs. They are beautiful dogs, but dogs sometimes, when left alone, start barking like crazy. Cats seem to handle a one person home better. Anyway, how are the prices of cats say at E-Mart compared to your run of the mill pet store? Again, we saw these pure bred cats for 250,000 Won. It is too much. I guess they didn't have regular cats. Daegu seems to have a good selection of cats, but Seoul should have something. Does Dr. Kwon have a selection of cats?
And if so how does one find him in Itaewon?
Thanks... |

I have seen cats on CINDY's website sometimes. I don't think they have photos of all the animals they have looking for homes. Try contacting Dave I'm sure he can help u out.
There are so many unwanted cats in this country it's better to get one from a shelter or something similar |

If your friend is serious, you can PM me for contact details for a woman I know who has personally rescued cats recently and is looking for homes for them. They aren't special breeds, but they're very sweet. |

Hi Adventurer,
I know it was awhile ago, and I'm not sure if your friend has found a cat yet or not, but I've seen a Siamese and 2 Persians recently living at the KAPS animal shelter in Daegu. Of course, there were countless other very friendly cats of every colour and size imaginable. I believe the cost to adopt from KAPS is 50,000won for an already spayed/neutered cat, but you should check with KAPS directly to be sure. Their contact info is here:
http://www.koreananimals.org/help.htm#contact
Here are a couple pictures of the cats in Daegu waiting to be adopted:

More pictures can be found at:
http://www.lonelylifetime.com/adoptable-animals/adopt-a-cat-from-kaps/
Like I said though, the pictures are only a fraction of the kitties that they have. If you're interested, I'd suggest getting in touch with KAPS directly and being patient waiting for them to respond.
All the best,
Karen |

IMHO you should avoid buying an animal from the stores. It just encourages breeding mills.
KAPS or Karama are a good choice. If you are in Seoul you should try Karama once. I would suggest KAPS because I have been there and oh my, there was a huge crowd of huge cats .
You should give it a try. |
