Hello,

My name is Daniel Gray and I'm a gyopo from America and I am trying to get an F4 visa. I am currently in Gyeong Ju and I need to find someone who can speak and write fluent Korean so I can go to the immigration office in Daegu and fill out my forms for the F4 visa.

I want to make sure that it goes correctly, because I am deathly afraid of being mistaked for a Korean citizen and sent to the Korean military.

I would be willing to pay well for you services - a fee for your help and translation, transportation costs, lunch - all the Korean amenities. Thank you !

Dan

Dan, I'm a Gyopo too and all I have to say is this: If you are over the age 35, or haven't had your name entered into your family register (ȣ), or have never filed an extension, waiver or any other official document with the MMA (Military Manpower Administration), or are prior service (have served in the U.S. military, Canadian Military, etc.), you don't have to worry about ever being conscripted in the ROK military.

Thanks but I am only 26, my name is in the Ho Jeok and I need to fill out a Ku Joek Samshil?? A renouncing Korean nationality form and then I have to file for an F-4. The immigration office in America recommended that I take someone who is bi-lingual because the form is in Korean.

I'd rather not have grenades thrown at me from some overly stressed Korean that only has a petulant wife and a life of servile work ahead of them. I'd rather not eat dung and have pictures of military perversions pasted all over the internet.

Ummm...I'd rather not serve in a Military where I don't speak the language. I think that's the biggest reason why.

If you're born in Korea you can get the special visa. I was adopted, so they allow me to get the visa...but I have to go though a huge load or turdwash to do it. I think its because they want to encourage Koreans that they've shipped out to return to their "roots".

But honestly, I'm here and I'm just as foreign as everyone else. Blood ain't thicker than water, however, the F4 has a lot of advantages over the E-2.

I'm just trying not to get screwed by illegit hagwons.

im not sure of the army thing as im a girl but i do remember that filing for F-4 was fairly easy and quick, its just basic information really that they ask you for as long as you have already obtained your family/birth record from the 'eup samu so'

also, maybe you should find out if they have a form in English for you to fill out or if not, then maybe someone in the immigration office can help you as well

Oh, come on. I'm sure military service can't be that bad. Surely it's only a minority that snaps under pressure and slaughters indiscriminately. I mean, it's not like it's in the news every day...

On the other hand, it's probably not a good sign that they floated the idea of renaming the "F4" the "WTF4?"

Anyway, good luck, Dan. Very Happy

So how much you offering, Dan? Initiation fee? Per hour? Really, how much.

and water ain't very thick.

If I had the ability, which I don't, I would do it for you for very little - but I get decent vacation time.

I'm going to Daegu tomorrow with my K-wife. She is fluently bilingual. But she also thinks her time is pretty valuable... and immigration here is hardly the paragon of efficiency... she only gets a three-day vacation, so won't be too keen on the idea. Still, if compensation was reasonable, I may be able to persuade her to do it on the Monday/Tuesday before we go back to Seoul.

What exactly is a Gyopo and how does one become one or stop being one?

if you are a korean citizen you will be sent to the military, if you are not you can't be sent to the military no matter what kind of visa you have. and if you are a korean citizen i don't think you are eligible for an F4. there is nothing to be "deathly afraid" about

Deathly afraid of hey......
yet....one wants to reap all the benefits that the country has to offer.
Yes, I have a problem with that.
The military is not for everyone.....still....a man has to be a man at times and do the right thing.
