"The indictment accuses Costello of faking -- or at least exaggerating -- retardation since August 1997, because that is what prosecutors are confident they can prove, Barbosa said."
In other words,he may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he isn't retarded. |

I guess the moral of the story is, you'd have to be retarded not to contest a traffic ticket. |

Some folks do a good job of acting retarded. Whether its just beer or they actualy are that shocking its hard to say.
There was a study done by a Uni proffessor I know about 8 years back. The conclusion was that about 80% of the western population were stupid. I mean unintelligent. A herd of sheep with very redneck thinking, unable to achieve higher education. plebius following cultural fads and brand names like real suckers. "common" as you might say. I can quite believe it. |

I would have put the number closer to about 50%. In any case, I've always thought that 'average' is just a word people use to make themselves feel good about themselves. You know you've heard it, "I'm not (insert an adjective with a negative connotation), I'm average." |

Frankly, I am not sure if a person who is retarded can even drive. If you contest a ticket, then you have to present reasons in a coherent manner as to why you think you shouldn't have to pay it. That means the person can be functionally employed. |

Normal is the word people use to feel good about themselves. Everybody wants their kid to be normal. Who wants to their kid to be average?
If intelligence across the population is arranged in a bell curve, then 50% are below the midpoint. The problem with this, though, is that IQ scores have been steadily rising over time, so I'm not sure if the original curve still holds (or whether the test has been renormed to restore the curve). |
