do you need a passport to stay in a hotel in korea? i'm in the process of getting my alien registration card, so my passport is at their office right now. i know that basically every hotel in europe requires a passport to stay - is the same true in korea? i'm thinking of traveling domestically this weekend, so i guess i should know this before i leave seoul. thanks.

Nah...you don't need any ID to stay in a Korean hotel/motel...just the cash up-front as a rule!

No. Korea doesn't have a whole lot of rules that are actually enforced. If they ask for it, just tell them you don'g have it and hand them money. You'll have a key in about .5 seconds.

You could photocopy the front page of your passport showing the number next time. Had the same problem in Thailand while waiting 3 days for my Chinese visa. Fortunately I had an old expired passport & that was adequate. Also knew my new number off by heart.

If your passport is with immigration they should have given you a piece of paper in Korean stating this. You should keep this piece of paper with you because you don't have any other form of I.D

You should always have I.D on you in Korea just in case.
