I'm totally dry for ideas. Middle School grade 2--lower classes Material and language in the textbook is really dry. I'm trying to adapt stuff to make some fun activities.....

so far I have...vocabulary with a quiz game and finish with a bingo game. Pretty lame, I know.

Lesson focuses around...picking up trash, recycling, being environmentally friendly. Conversation items in the text are "Look at the trash over there" "Wow, I can't believe this" "Would you do me a favour" "Could you help me" "Give me a hand" and "pick up the ____"

It's gonna be rough trying to piece together a decent lesson out of this.

Chapter 13 of Small Group Discussion Topics by Jack Martire would be perfect if you can get ahold of it. I did it two weeks ago with my MS students and it worked great as a dictation / Q&A lesson.

There are some ESL environmental links on my site below - scroll to 'E' for 'Environment'. The California Literacy site has a nice worksheet booklet set which you could adapt to your class. Set up some recycling containers in your class, and send out the class to pick up some trash and separate it according materials: 'What's it made of?' > 'It's made of plastic'. Also, get some garbage fragments: 'What is this?' > 'It looks like a tyre.' If they're really good, get them to write a letter in English to an environmental group about an issue which they care about. They can also set about designing some object out of recycled materials, then give a presentation to promote their design on a fictitious recycling shopping channel network. Winner gets a prize.

Do a quick google for "earth day". There is tons of stuff that can easily be adapted for use from the English classroom to the EFL classroom . It worked great with my Gr5 & 6's too,.
