Should I buy a desktop in the US and have it shipped to Korea or should I wait and buy one after I get there? I'll be living on Jeju Island, so a trip to Seoul might not be possible. |

It really depends on what you want to do with your computer. If you want a high-end gaming PC, then buy the graphics card, memory, and motherboard in the states (maybe even the processor). Bring those with you. Everything else, puchase here in Korea (unless you require a power supply greater than 500 watts. If then, you'll have to purchase a good one off the net).
If you want just an avg. pc for basic crap and light gaming, then buying one here will be cheaper (savings in the shipping).
If you bring a laptop, bring one because you will always be moving it around. If your PC is just going to sit there, then buy a desktop and sell it when you leave (i will sell my pc when i leave). |

Entry level desktop PCs can be purchased here for $300-500. Even buying a midrange one from a department store is usually only around $700 (with monitor). Get a co-worker to help you on-line from a Korean website if need be.
Shipping and insurance costs from the states will be as expensive as buying an entry level machine here. |
