This one is easy - my kids beg for it but I only do it occasionally. It is called "one-word reading relay". Here's the rules everyone is organized - example first row R to L/2nd row Left to right. Everyone needs to know who they follow. Every student reads only one word, then on to the next student.
If a student is not paying attention and misses a word, they are buzzed (by me) out. They put their head down but still can see their book. That way the student after them, now listens for a different person. This can continue until the end of the page, end of 2 pages, end of the book. When a lot of students are out - you say "Continue - everyone is back in the game!"
After the students have done this once or twice, you can up the ante:
1) if pronunciation is wrong - you are out
2) every time someone reads a certain word - all the girls stand up; another word - all the boys stand up (then sit down of course) - great for high frequency words and to wake up kids
Others:
1) do a rhyme search - one word from the text and everyone has 2 minutes to find all the word in the story that rhyme with that word and write them down (can be done with partners - one searching, the other writing a list
2) find all the words with long "e" sounds - "ee, ea, e___e, y; etc. and write them down - and bread does not count, neither does read, if present tense
Just a few that I have used at my prior hagwon when we have read the story book over and over and the month is still not up.
Hope you can use a few. |
