Baek Ji-young has made a successful comeback after she was pitilessly ostracized by the public at the end of 2000, when a video clip that showed her having sex was put on the Internet. The title song of her new album released early this month (�I Won�t Fall in Love�) has topped all music charts both off- and online. �I hope people only think of me as a singer when they hear my new song,� Baek told the Chosun Ilbo. �The scandal I was involved in will never be forgotten even when I�m very old, whether I succeed or fail, but it�s painful to hear people talk about it whenever something happens to me.� Although herself the victim in the scandal, she had to endure being cold-shouldered by the public. �I felt sorry, victimized, desolate, and so on. So many feelings surged up within me, and of course it was difficult,� she says with a sigh. �Without the support of my family and friends, I could never have shaken it off.�
�If you start to hide one thing, there will be more things you have to hide. It is better to admit things and be honest,� she muses. �Of course I was helpless then, but my agency and friends helped me to face it. Then I made up my mind to try to overcome it if I couldn�t avoid it.� But the reality was still harsh.

Such flagrant and shameless double-standards. The woman is publicly humiliated and has her career disemboweled, but nothing bad at all happens to the man. In fact, he goes on television and brags about it. At least she has finally suceeded in restarting her career. It's comforting to know that the Nazizens, I mean the Netizens, are not omnipotent. It would be disheartening to think that a bunch of spoiled adolescents (in thinking if not in chronological age) run this country. |

Actually, I saw the video a long time ago- very boring. Uninteresting amateur porn.
Yep, the manager guy who shot the video is a complete friggin' slimeball, but he didn't suffer at all from it.
The "casting couch" is a huge part of the entertainment world and Korea is no different. It's pretty much a given that a lot of girls have to sleep their way to the top.
I'm sure lots of entertainment industry guys make these videos and use them to blackmail the talent.
Reminds me of a recent story I read about a pornstar. She was orginally trying to make it as a legit actress, but kept getting told that whe would have to (edted) for parts. She got so sick of it that she decided to just be a pornstar. She said "Why should I (edited) some sleazy producer when I might not even get the part. I should just actually (edited) on film and make money!".
