The US ambassador to the UN, John Bolton, today became the Bush administration's latest foreign policy hawk to fall victim to the Democratic takeover of Congress.

Good. There are plenty of people who would do a good job at the UN.

As for Bolton, I think his style of diplomacy is needed at times. Right now, the perfect job for him would be Ambassador to Venezuela. I think Bolton vs Chavez is a match made in heaven. I'd even pay to watch their meetings.

Not sure I agree with you, but I will say that appointing someone anti-UN to represent the UN's host country is, at the very least, a slap in the face to the UN.

That we're past such pig-headed insanity makes me happy.

Great post. I myself wouldn't pay (but I'd definitely download the bootleg).

I think it is generally reassuring that professionals like Gates are moving in as the however-you-want-to-describe-them less-than-professionals like Rumsfeld and Bolton are leaving. I am also happy to note that Cambone is going with Rumsfeld.

The question is: how fast can they move to implement the Iraq Study Group's recommendations and repair the damage that has been done?

And will W. Bush's opponents keep their rhetoric in check if only to allow him to save face, while at the same time continue encouraging him to keep moving in this direction?
