I am sorry for your luck. It could be a bunch of different things:

Were you grounded when you installed the ram? If not, the static charge on your body could have fried something inside.

There are many ways to possibly fix this:

1 - if you have a secondary harddrive, go ahead and make it your primary drive and install windows on it. Then, transfer all files from the busted on onto the new one. Then completely reformat the busted on.

2 - completely erase everything by shorting out CMOS (we can show you how to do that). This will wipe your BIOS clean and give you a fresh set up.

3 - We could use the windows cd that you have and repair windows.

There are other options too, but, did you make sure (probably a stupid question) that your memory was snapped in tightly?

Is your PSU turning on then cutting out? How long have you had your PC?

Let us know and we'll guide you.

If you are getting the primary start-up screen, then go straight to the bios and select your cd-rom as the primary start up device and use the windows repair function on your windows cd.

i just went to watch a movie and my 320 gb hard drive is gone all the wires are still pluged in, but the hard drive is just not showing up,

also it says that i have a floppy disc drive when i have no floppy disc drive installed.

plus the drivers for my gforce video card are not installed

when i go to put the side panel back on the computer restarts
any ideas

i have just moved my computer from my place to my girlfriends place could that have done anything?

Seems to be a grounding issue.

Ground yourself and take the whole thing apart and rebild it, checking everything twice. It will only take 30 minutes. It does sound like your mainboard is messed up. Perhaps you cooked something when fiddling with the RAM or the RAM not being seated did something? The self-check did get to 1.5GB before it shut down, right? That's odd...

Do as cl said and reset the CMOS.

1: Conflict with the first stick? You got the timing correct, right? Did you do anything to the memory timings in the bios? I would reset the bios by taking out the battery.

2: Sometimes different kinds of Ram don't work well together....Hynix VS Samsung

The PC shop won't be of much help. They just like to reformat s.h.i.t. automatically assuming that'll fix whatever. Be careful as to who plays with your pc. Next thing you know, they'll say it was broken when in reality....

The problem is definately hardware.... and sounds like a BIOS problem... he needs to reset the CMOS....

I don't know if he did that yet. I think he just checked all the connections.

It is possible that he toasted something the mainboard but I don't think so. It is NOT a windows problem from the description. His problems appear at POST.

i took the battery out for 20 minutes, started it up again, the startup menu came up, reset the time but still no second hard drive and my video card driver will not install? well it says it does but when i go to PCI device managers has the yellow question mark on it and says drivers not installed.

Also went to play Company of heros and now it says "not enough virtual memory, total pages must be 768MB. Please consult manual that came with your OS" the game played fine before

ok. Your card and harddrive are being recognized but your drivers are gone. Re-download the drivers from their respective sites and install them. Let us know what happens.

I am not sure which one you have; follow the links:

seriously though, it seems as though a spark f.u.c.k.ed. up your PC. You may want to perform a hard install to see if you can salvage anything. That's just my opinion. Just keep trying to install the drivers. Is your video card ok now?
