|
|
Korea's government has a huge spending deficit. Here are some ideas on how to eliminate it in record time.
1. Start fining drivers for traffic violations. Seriously, even if running a red light was as cheap as 10,000 won, that woukd rack a lot of money for the greedy Uri party's hands.
2. Fine people for littering. If I had 100 won for every person I saw littering, it would be more profitable than some of my part time jobs.
3. Jack up the tax on driving. I always get caught in traffic between so many cars with 1 person in them. Make it not worth it, and people will drive less.
4. Fine people for double parking their car. There's a lot of money to be made on my street alone.
Yeah, it involves a lot of police work, but if they could get off their duff and drive without their lights on, maybe they could catch a real criminal. |

| Maybe start by getting a real police force, not drafting a bunch of kids. Do they draft their firemen too? I hope not... |

And if no policeman available to get that hard wanted cash, get the people to do it.
Just imagine the following
The governement would pay 10 percent of all the illegal parking you can take a picture off!
Let say a fin of 30.000, 10 percent is 3.000, 1 street has 10 cars badly parked, it would take you 20 minutes to take the picture another 10 to upload to a webby ...
That would be fun cash to be earned quickly AND solve the problem of parking in ONE GO. |

Yes the fire department is made up partially of draftees. |

I'd think running a red light could be higher then that...say 25,000 isn't much if you break a traffic law. I'm not sure what the fine is in North America but I'd guess it's probably 4 or 5 times that at least.
The traffic laws seem to be more of a suggestion then laws. Certainly it seems like an unwritten rule that if you are a pedistrian you no rights.

| There is WAY too much bagging on the police on Dave's. If given the choice--overzealous or underzealous police, which would you choose? I know no one likes a Police-State, and a lot of Western countries are dangerously close to that. |

Those draftees are only riot police, and not the police that patrol in the streets. They guard the US army base, etc.
I think they are far better police than the real ones who do nothing but drink coffee and drive around with their lights on all the time.
Juregen, your suggestion sounds good on paper, but it's not. They did this many years ago. People could take a picture of a traffic offense and send it in. They got 10,000 won a picture. But people were doing it for a living and making over 100,000,000 won a year. It went out of control. Competition for a place to stand on the sidewalk. |

Aren't they doing the same with imitation goods as well? My students said they call these people the 'New Paparazzi'. Apparently there was a tv program about them. They make a fortune from taking pictures on their cell phones of people selling imitation goods. Some people had given up their jobs to do this full-time. |

Wow. Anything to get out of working. Sometimes the lack of sanity befuddles me. |

What's double-parking? Is that taking up two spaces? If that's the case, then string 'em up. However, if you're talking about cases where the car is blocking another car, that's simply a necessary evil. There just isn't enough space for everyone to park properly, which is why so many cars display their cell-phone numbers on those embroidered pillows-- you can ring the offender up and emancipate your vehicle! |

The lack of spaces kinda tells Koreans something. If there aren't enough spots, people shouldn't drive so much. But Koreans don't accept that. They want to live like little America, and drive everywhere, despite ridiculous gas prices.
Those pillows are not an excuse. They just give the other driver a resort to get his car out. Well other than slashing the other car's tires or calling a tow truck.

But then you have the complete F'ing morons who have no regard for other people and either refuse to answer their phones when you call them to move their car or as the complete imbecile who lives in my apartment block and constantly blocks my car in does, never has his cell phones turned on. He has 3 numbers on his sh*tty little sign in his car window and never has any of them turned on. |
