Okay single white men coming back from Asia I guess get spot checked for child porn. I'm back in Canada for two weeks and fly home via Detroit (my hometown is on the Canadian side of the Rio Detroit). The Narita to Detroit flight is mostly GIs and single white men coming back from their trip to *nudge nudge* Thailand. If you're a single white guy, you might get directed to the bend-over-for-a-moment line. They search your bags, view the pics on your digital camera, and if you have a laptop, search the myphotos folder on your computer. Long 'n' short, burn any questionable GF photos to CD or something unless you want some 380 lbs guy with a badge and a sidearm ogling at your Korean GF in bra 'n' panties.
Oi. How embarrassing. |

Why are you posting this warning?
So what if some moron sees your GF in her undies.
If one child molester gets caught in the process, then it's worth it.
Now you've just warned on the John Kerr's and other wacko's on how not to get caught.. |

And who would be doing the search? Some security clown? Tell him to piss off. He can't legally check out the contents of your laptop or camera. He can just ascertain that they are what they appear to be by turning them on and off.
Unless you are clearing through customs going into the States you never see the US customs man. If you are just in transit then you don't go through customs, you just change planes at the transit desk.
If you are transiting through Detroit then Canada customs never knows or cares that you were in Asia. |

In customs, they have a right to check anything they want. Telling a customs guy to piss off is not the way to expedite a search. I'm am speaking of actual customs and not some TSA security check point. Everyone from Asia passes through Detroit customs regardless of on going destination.

Customs Guy: Golly look at all this encrypted content. What are you hiding?
Another great way to expedite your trip through customs.

Do you really think pedos come to Dave's to find out how to get their content back into North America? I have some hard opinions of the users here but a den of pedos isn't one of them. I have nothing against the random search and the intent. Did I say that? I'm just warning non-pedos with some risque photos of their GF to not assume you just fly through customs these days and customs searches for single white men coming back from Asia are rather more intrusive than a search for undeclared fruits and veggies. (To that last point, I noticed they were searching old Asian ladies and finding a lot of undeclared produce.) |

Can US Customs Search & Seize Your Laptop Computer Without Cause? YES They Can!
And it's no different going into Canada. Although I would suspect Canada Customs will flag you for more... ie B&D stuff.
My brother's coworker was pulled over going back into Canada and, like the poster in the linked article, he was in for a two hour search of his laptop.
I hesitate to warn anyone about hiding their child porn as if you've got it, I hope you get caught. However, going into Canada, don't forget Canada has much more restrictive laws as to what constitutes illegal porn. Also too, as the first article indicates, an over zealous agent might decide pictures of your students are worth questioning. |

| I would warn anybody going through U.S. customs that they have a zero tolerance law against pirated dvds, cds, and software. I read that they can seize all your dvds even if it's just one disc, so be forewarned. |
