Is there an easy, fast way to get connected to a (real-person) language exchange program in Seoul?
I have been here 4 months and it's time to learn more than the names of kinds of food and words about my dog...
:)Thanks! |

I found this website and met a couple of people.
http://www.MyLanguageExchange.com
One 'problem' to look out for: often the Korean will be fast to become a friend; and that is great. However, once you become a friend, they will want to have coffee, shop, anything except look at your Korean language lesson. A 'friend' will get bored and restless after abot 10 minutes on a Korean lesson. I recommend to try to keep it businesslike with 1 hour on English (they bring a lesson) and one hour on Korean (you bring a lesson). Anything done as a friend will be in English and worthless for learning Korean. Sorry to be cynicle, that's just what I've found in these 'language exchanges': Good or friends, not good for learning Korean. |

I second that about keeping structure to the language exchange.
I never really had a good, long term language exchange partner,
because I didn't want any rules and I didn't want to be tied down
to meeting at a regular time.
My friends who had the most valuable exchanges kept the language
learning at an even 50:50 of teaching and learning and also met
very regularly. |
