Has anyone had any success with that stupid gabbly thing?

It wouldn't work for me. Says I needed to "update" my browser -- I'm using a more recent version than any they specify.

Dave's has had chat for years. It's linked off the home page - just click "Chat Central."

Have fun!

Whoa, whoa now -- "off the homepage"? You're saying it's open to all Dave's ESL Cafe members around the planet? It's not a chatroom just for uri-board members? Screw that. Who wants to chat with "foreigners"?

*edit* -- Just tried it. Says my user name does not exist. And the "white text on dull yellow background" error messages couldn't be harder to read if you'd tried.

Like I didn't know from the outset that this wasn't going to work.

Okay, I got in. Have to register separately. Also, I'm not kidding about the near-unreadability of those white-on-dull-yellow error messages. Yeah, highlighting the text works, but jeez.
