Could anyone let me know if (and where) any of these brands of menswear are available in Seoul:

Ted Baker
Paul Smith
French Connection
Diesel

... or similar brands.

I heard that Paul Smith is available in the Hyundai department store. Any others?

Thanks guys!

I've seen fake FrenchConnetionUK and fake Diesel and tonnes fake Paul Smith.

I don't think I've seen legit versions of any of these clothes anywhere.

Be original and wear non-branded clothing.

Go to Itaewon, Namdaemun or Dongdaemun markets.
Stop being submissive to advertising!

if most of the clothes in itaewon, namdaemun or dongdaemun are copies of the branded clothes in department stores, then how is that being original?! sounds more like just being cheap.

They have original clothes without brand names. I just bought a nice a sweater in Itaewon for 20,000. The problem with buying brand clothes (fake or real) is that you categorize yourself. You become the brand. It's rather boring really.

Paul Smith and Diesel have stores in Galleria in Apkujong and the Lotte Dept store near Myungdong. However, what they stock reflects a Korean fashion sense (obviously). If thats your cup of tea, then shop there. If not, you might like to try the following options.

1/ Both Paul Smith and Ted Baker have good online services, and deliver to Korea. And if you order outside the UK, VAT is refunded. However, you will get stung by Customs this end. I ordered some shirts (3) once from Paul Smith, and ended up paying 80 000 won in duty. Plus shipping can be a bit steep. So you have to factor that in too.

2/ Got any travel plans coming up??? China, Hong Kong and the Philippines all have the shops you are looking for, and with a line up more orientated towards Western fashion senses. Not the cheapest option, but if you are traveling anyway...

Hope this has helped!

J.

and i'm sure your 20k sweater just radiates excitement. some people like certain brands because they consistantly fit well and look good. whenever i make a trip back to the states, i make sure to hit the sale racks at banana republic. is it because i'm a slave to their advertising? i'm sure you think it is, but i think it has more to do with the fact that the clothes they sell there look good, feel good, and are reasonably priced if you get lucky with what's on sale.
you've got this knee-jerk, stick-it-to-the-man, high-horse thing going on, and i wonder if it's worth missing out on some of the small joys in life, such as a comfortable pair of pants, or a decent cup of coffee, just so you can get smug with a bunch of people on a message board about how you feel so sorry for the rest of us stuck down in plato's cave.

I need'nt worry EOTW. Personally, I would'nt take advice from someone who's head vaguely resembles a bell-end with stubble...

Personally I am drawn to the bespoke side of things in SK. However, after casting my eye over the frankly ludicrously shoddy work of the tailors in Itaewon, it seems I must look elsewhere. Englands tailors in the Hyundai store next to the COEX has some sterling examples, but at 1.5m a pop I think my options would be quite limited...

You too, eh? I could really go for a good banana republic trip right now. Wardrob wearing thin. Not as slim as I was when I started wearing those designs, but still love 'em.

What a revelation, thanks Dev! You should also tell us to not just watch films that top the box office, or listen to music in the top 10!

Of course I agree with your sentiments, but I have also never uttered the phrase "I just bought a nice sweater"!

Itaewon - what a hole. I'd reather eat my old sweater than spend a day there to buy any new ones.

Myong dong - now there's some nice casual name brand shopping with a mix of authentic and fake. Wicked big price range from 10$ sweaters to 100$ bean pole caps.

Ever notice the smell of clothes from Namdaemun or Dongdaemun? I guess if you're trying to smell like a local they are the place to start. Ugh.

Actually, the reason why I want these brands is that they fit perfectly and are made from decent materials.

I've heard that Ted Baker signed an agreement with Li & Fung Group last year for retail and wholesale distrubution in Korea. So I'm thinking that it must be available somewhere.... Does anyone know where?
