I wonder what could happen if a school was caught using priated windows. I used to know of a couple of schools that ran pirated versions of windows. Would MS actually go after 1 school in a foreign country?

I agree with what another poster said in a different forum; I run my own legit stuff on my computers.

nothing much

MS threatens with a case, tells them to pay for the software, adds some extra service, case closed.

I once worked for a software developer in Florida. They made anti virus and security softwere.

They purchased one copy of a MS product and installed it on about 100 computers.

Word leaked out and the SPA came and audited all their computers.

The Software Piracy Association fined the company on behalf of MicroSoft, made them buy a license for all their computers, and then one day i saw a sign up saying my company had joined the SPA...

Wouldn't it be a lot of trouble to get a court order forcing the school to allow them onto the property? Sounds like a pain in butt. They can't just come on the property and start using the equipment to check...that requires a legal action be filed in court. They wouldn't do it for a couple of computers running illegal windows...they would send legal paper of "intent" to sue.

At my public schools, there is no pirated software, save what's on the teacher's computers. However, shortly after WinXP came out, I was working part time at a hagwon. One afternoon, the director came rushing into the teachers room, telling us to "hide the computers", as someone was coming to audit the place. Laughing I guess they had some suspect software running.

No joke mate. "Hide the computers." There was nowhere to hide them, so we took them up to the roof.

Strange days indeed. Welcome to the hagwon.
