| Hey! I will go to Bohol in Feb, but will arrive after the last ferry/plane leaves for Bohol. So, I'll have to stay around Cebu for the night to catch transportation the next morn.. Can anyone recommend a decent (but not too spendy) pension/hotel to stay around Cebu? Near or on the sea would be nice and not too far from the airport (within 1 hr) as I don't want to spend too much time in a taxi/bus after making the trip from Seoul... Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer suggestions! |

Mid range and 5 minutes from the airport is the Bella Vista. Cost is about $50 (php2500 single/double). They include breakfast for 2 and airport pickup. It is a 30 minute drive by taxi to the fast ferry going to Tagbilaran or 20 minutes to the slow boats going to Tubigon. Their phone number (calling from Korea) is:
002-63-32-340-7821. http://www.stratacreations.com/bellavistahotel/ .
Right next door and about 1/2 the price is the Cesario hotel. Rooms from php1250. http://www.hotelcesario.com/
Across the street from the Gaisano mactan mall (8 minutes from the airport) is the ACE pension house. Cost is about $12 per night. It is not fancy but it is clean and easy to get to the ferry. There is a McDonalds across the street for a fast breakfast if you are catching an early boat.
Their number is: 002-63-32-341-1140.
When you get your luggage and get out of the airport, avoid the taxis and touts downstairs. Go upstairs and get a metered taxi. The rate to the ACE is about 50 pesos. If they don't know where the ACE is, tell them to go to the Gaisano MACTAN mall. Don't cross the bridge into Cebu or Mandaue.
IF you want a CHEAP place on the beach then the Hadsan cove has rooms from php1200 per night as well. It is about a 30 minute drive from the airport but it is the cheapest beach in Cebu. I have stayed there and did NOT like it. It was a bit out of the way and most of the day I was chasing away the touts trying to sell me everything from a girlfriend to dive trips in someone's boat. http://cebu-hotels.com/mactan-resort/ |

You don't want anything down near the piers.
Things will NOT be booked out for travel in January. Tourists going through usually use the resorts like Maribago, Hilton, Shangrila, Plantation Bay. Any of those would come highly recommended AND do get fully booked AND they are not cheap.
I have never known the ACE to be fully booked. If it is, there is another one right next door. Occasionally the Cesario and Bella Vista get booked up. This is more likely to happen around Sinulog.
If you are looking for girlie action then that is another story. The Century downtown will put you in range of the action but watch your wallet and your back. |

Thanks again for the info ttompatz.. I'll stay away from the piers. I go in early Feb, so I hope that rooms will not be difficult to find at that time as well. As for the girlies... not real interested since I am one myself and like boys.... and hopefully my male companion won't be lookin' either.... |

A place that isn't near Mactan Island's airport or the Cebu docks.. but central to great places if you want a decent night out in Cebu.
La Florentina is around 650 pesos (US$13).. around the corner is Winelist (Spanish-owned restaurant with Latin music and a lot of wine, etc.).. La Florentina/Winelist is also around 5-10 minute walk from Ayala Mall - which has tons of restaurants, movies, bars, shopping, etc.
Sounds like you're just in Cebu for the night however and moving on quickly in the morning. But Cebu is a nice place for a few days IF you are in the right areas of Cebu. |
