Ever skip a post because it was just one long jumble?

Not to be fussy but it's true. If you space your writing, punctuate it correctly, and do not run on forever in one space, you have a better shot at actually being read.

Next time, try it. People might read it.

This only applies to a few posters.

Good spelling helps too.

Agreed. Keep it simple, keep it vulgar, and all is well.

PS - Nice avatar! Boy George after the Culture Club split, hey? Good choice!

And stop misusing smilies. Actually, just stop using them.

Cretins.

All the time. Very little internet patience these days. Oh, hell, probably don't want to read what they have to say anyway.

It also helps if you have something worthwhile to mention.

I agree. The only reason to talk (or type) is to communicate. If you make it a chore for me to do the other half, what's the point?

I once started a family-wide incident by suggesting that my uncle, a retired high school English teacher, try paragraphs in his 2 page emails. Shocked How hard is it to push the enter key?

True.

I thought this was worth mentioning. Hopefully it will help at least one person write properly.

Look at what you write, everybody. Would you pay attention if you were the reader? Is it neat and easy to read? Look again before you submit.

I see quite a few posts that just run on and on, unpunctuated, no sentences, no capital letters, no spacing or paragraphs. Has email and chatting or cell phone text messages made you so sloppy?

Poor spelling also detracts from what you want to say. If you misspell words, that just dilutes the effectiveness of your writing.

(Yes, we all make typos now and then. So reread your post, and try to minimize them. Hell, I post when drunk sometimes and still do pretty well I think>)

Yeah, it's just a forum and not an essay contest. But, are not most of us English teachers with a good bit of education?

So, write in a way that's worth reading.

If in doubt, space, start a new paragraph. It's easier to read.

This post was too long and potentially boring for me to read. Not kidding.

Ah, but I know you read it Q. You quoted it. Besides you are not one of the usual offenders. Your posts are usually CATchy and rarely a CATastrophe.

Did I space too much? I do that sometimes to avoid the runs. My typical weekend involves some runs. Maybe next time I'll avoid space and stick more to the local frontier.

I agree Jajdude. Imagine waking up and sticking your pinky finger in your left ear to dig out some earwax, and a seagull falls out of your ear. Would you scrape off the salt and use it in your tuna potato jamboree, or would you just throw it over your left shoulder, in praise of Kali?

Actually

I

find

it

very

annoying

when people

use so much bloody space

in their posts.

I prefer chunks of writing. It's much easier on the eye. Sure, break it up with a few paragraphs here and there...but double spacing just looks too bitty and I find myself less willing to make the effort to read it.
