Don't know what it is exactly, but I no longer want to use Dave's for anything other than job searches.

For some reason I feel depressed and dirty after reading a few posts in the forums. So much sniping and, pettiness and cr*p.

Anyone else noticed this or is it just me...?

It's only Dave's that makes me feel like this, no other website...

No, not really. If it wasn't for this site I'd have to find some other to kill time at work. I can't say I feel better or worse for reading it. Many posts brighten me up. When I come into work in the morning the first thing I usually do is check Dave's to see if there's anything new or interesting.

^ Ditto! It's a good way to kill those hours at work when I'm just sitting on my butt and don't feel like watching a movie or TV show. And, it's good to receive and offer feedback on lesson plans as there are quite a few creative and knowledgeable folk here. Finally, I don't look at 3/4s of the threads here, especially the redundant ones that keep cloning. Usually, just skim ones that interest me and respond in those where I'm certain I can offer constructive insight... Very Happy

I have taken a long break from this board, and I understand why. Seems like I need more time too. Reality and disconnect all mumble jumble here, move straight along, nothing to see.......

meh, the "planning" times at work (4 hours for 3 classes) would be dreadful without at least one interestign arguement.

Well the Korea described on this board is certainly not the Korea I live in.

No, if anything, I feel better. The forums remind me of all the little things about Korea that used to bother me but don't anymore. I spend hours a day here and I'm as happy as I've ever been.

After visiting these forums I start looking at other Westerners I see here in a funny way.

(Something along the lines of, "They LOOK normal, but what if they are so and so from Dave's who said or did or thinks......?" Confused )

Yes, I've felt likewise. When I used to spend half an hour or an hour at a time around here. No more.

I now spend no more than 10-15 minutes a day here, usually less. Check my PMs, scan the threads, ignore plenty, skip past posters with a rep, make a quick post, learn a thing or two as it is useful from time to time, and then log out and get off the computer.

I'm much more satisfied these days. Though at times I still have to... Rolling Eyes at the stuff here.

Dave's used to wind me up a little. Then I too developed a strong selective reading filter. I'm sure I have no idea what goes on in 75% of threads.

You should try it out.

I'm confused about why you made this post if you only want to use the site for job searches.

Personally, I get a lot of laughs from the site. That's what I'm always hoping for is to see something funny. Of course I could just download comedian routines on mp3 or something, which I do, but here the humor is personalized, and mostly inside (inside being, at minimum, expats in Korea).
