I have heared conflicting information regarding this. A recruiter told me it is not needed if you are going from a hagwon to a public school, but if you are going from hagwon to hagwon then you need to do it. I was trying to sort things out in immigration. My hagwon closed down, and I was trying to figure out if I had to do a visa or not. The official made it seem as if I didn't have to, but I can't speak Korean. I don't have a letter of release, because my boss is trying to play hard ball and extort money from a recruiter or school before agreeing to give me my last pay and hasn't done anything to help cut my visa.

Sorry to hear that your old school is giving you such a hard time... Sad

The recruiter was right. When you go from a hagwon to a public school then you do not need to do a visa run... HOWEVER, when I went through the process, a rep from my old job and a rep from my new job had to go to immi with me and fill out some paperwork for the transfer - not sure exactly how that would work out if you do not have a letter of release and are being jerked around by your old boss.

(wow, that wasn't really much help in the end, was it) Crying or Very sad
