All these great threads about music got me thinking...
What is your favorite artist/song/album/genre to listen to when riding the subway?
For me i think it must be the rich sonics of german minimalists Monolake (especially their "cinemascope" album). The other day i was listening to this album and was amazed how perfectly the sounds of the subway worked in concert with the music. The hum of the subway speeding up and the chirp of the lady on the speaker announcing the stops all seemed to fit just perfectly in context with the tracks.
Anyway, what's your ideal subway soundtrack and why? |

Nice pick with Monolake saw him play a wicked live set at a party in the forest a few years back. Just picked up the "Alaska Melting" 12 inch this week...great stuff. Are you aware Robert Henke is one of the main people behind Ableton? A true innovator.
The first subway type music that comes to my mind is:
Burial - Burial
Nice spacious and textured dubstep. I could swear some of the sounds of it have been recorded from subway platforms. I always end up getting the basslines in my head when I wait for a train. |

It reminds me of my childhood and is kinda uplifting

Not at all. My hour and twenty minutes on the subway every day is a great time to read, grade papers, study languages, and listen to music in the languages I'm studying. The commute that I at first expected to be a big waste of time has turned out to be one of the most productive parts of my day. I wish I lived closer to my job but riding the subway sure beats driving to work. |
