Some of the post office locations have packing services tucked away in some corner. I've used them at two locations several times, most recently this morning at the one near Seo Hyeon station. The service is quite good: prices are posted and depend on the dimensions of the box they prepare for you (and I guess it's more for bubble wrap and such -- I usually bring my own bubble wrap, having lots of it saved up) They pack very well, taking good care to protect things well. And they're amazing at crafting a box to fit an odd-shaped item. They even have the forms you will need to fill out and know what the dimension / weight limits are for any country you are sending to, and will box / wrap appropriately.
This morning I brought in an umbrella I want to send as a gift. Brought my own bubble wrap. The man skillfully crafted a single-piece box from a sheet of generic cardboard and taped it up way more than I would have done myself. Took him all of less than ten minutes.
A very convenient service; check it out.

Well, actually, it's the packing guys who set up a small business in the corner of the post office I'm talking about. They are not "the post office" but rather some business that got the contract to provide packing services.
The post office? Sending things out, about as could be expected of post offices anywhere. Impressed that there's usually somebody who can speak enough English if you get into a situation where your Korean's not enough. Receiving things: that's a whole 'nother story. |

I had an encounter at a post office fairly recently when I tried to send a letter back home to the UK. I didn't speak Korean and the post office staff didn't speak English, so there bound to be a problem. Sure enough, there was.
But the staff sat me down with a cup of coffee whilst they worked out where exactly I was trying to send this letter.
For the 650 won I paid for the stamp, I was treated like a King! |
