I moved to a new officetel recently and I'm now paying 125,000 won for one room. Last year I was paying maybe 50,000 for a three bedroom place. The biggest expense seems to be the 50,000 won I'm paying for the "workers", which seem to be the managers and the parking attendant.
In my opinion, fees that don't change based on how much you use it should be included in the rent, which would then be paid by the school. |

| I've been paying 90,000 - 100,000 won a month for a 1 room. That's including electric, water, and a bunch of other stuff that I guess is lumped into "building fees". Prolly for some cleaning staff for the building, the ajassi downstairs who sleeps all day, etc. |

I have a friend who successfully argued that the 40,000 won 'building fee' should be paid by his boss rather than by him. He argued that the building fee counts as rent because it is a fixed cost and that he should only pay utilities because those are variable costs. |

Brian I live in Anyang and I also pay between 100-150k a month for the officetel I live in. Of which I think about 50k is also for the building maintenace. I think officetels are more because they are generally nicer.
All my stuff is brand new and works and there is a maintenance guy I can go get if anything breaks. There are also a few security guards.
For my first year, I was stuck in a dingy basement apartment that smelled like mildew and still paid about 80-100k per month. So I am happy to pay the extra 50k to have a nice safe clean place to live. Heck its still about $700 cheaper than I was paying in the states for rent! |

Last year I lived in a two bedroom apt and paid between 150 and 200 a month (including 40 for internet)!!
Had to move because what they did was obviously taking the building's total fee and divide it by the amount of apartments...so i was paying the same as the families in the other apartments!!
One month I left for a ten day vacation and turned off everything in my apt thinking I would only pay 2 thirds of the fee that month....when i got my bill it was exactly the same as every other month...what a joke
Btw what is an officetel? (i live in a small town)

An officetel, is a building which rents units that can be used as offices or as an apartment.
My "rent" is determined by the pyeong, total/mine. |
