My apartment is pretty bare and I'm desperate to buy a bedside table and a cheap sofa-bed, just so I've got something to lounge around on. Sitting on my bed all the time isn't much fun.

As a relatively new arrival in Korea, I don't have much of a clue about these sorts of things.

Can anybody suggest any stores that would sell what I'm after and possibly suggest what sort of prices I'd be looking at paying?

Thanks in advance.

Korean furniture is, by and large, ugly and expensive. Save yourself some money and get some ugly second-hand stuff. Check out the Buy/Sell forum if you haven't already.

From my experience most of the furniture in Korea is freakin' garbage. I got a table in my place that I bought about 3 months ago that's already got the goddarned paint coming off of it. Granted, I only paid about 60 bucks for the thing...( I know...cheap azz)

Keep your eyes on the streets. You can actually find some decent furniture on the curbside. I have picked-up a sofa and a few tables in the past and all were in pretty good condition.

If you want to buy a sofa/bed. I recommend just buying a small matress and some big pillows. Put the matress on the floor and pile on a bunch of pillows. My wife and I did that and we both liked it alot. Cheap, comfortable and convenient.

It's not really easy to recommend a specific store in Korea because a) there are no addresses and b) the same stores exist in pretty much every neighborhood.

Basically what you need to do is find a used furniture store. I got my desk, which has a giant surface and is very good quality, my rolling leather chair, and my 6-foot-tall bookshelf from a used store down the street. Paid less than 100k for all of it.

Just ask your boss or someone who knows your neighborhood well to tell you where a used furniture store in the area is.
