Does anyone know anything about the Canadian recruiter, www.asknow.ca? I am considering having them get me my first Korean taching job.
Also, do you recommend using a recruiter or directly contacting schools? I have a US passport, advanced degree, and experience teaching English and other subjects to all ages in Mexico. |

I'm looking for a job now too, and the opinion around here seems to be that recruiters are scum and can never be used, but others advise to just be very careful when you accept an offer, talk to current teachers, etc. Personally, I signed up with a few recruiters, but weeks have gone by without a single e-mail or phone call from a few of the "good" ones.
People always say to apply to schools rather than go through a recruiter, but I rarely see ads from schools for full-time jobs. If I do, they are usually for the big chains that have awful reps. So, I dunno. Maybe someone can suggest a better place to work? (I check Dave's and worknplay.co.kr every day). |

This might not apply to everybody, but worknplay won't even look at you if you've got a family. No idea why, as I've been here with my wife and two young kids for three months and have definitely been enjoying it.

| I originally tried to come through Asknow.com and had several phone/email conversations with them. If you want to do junior high or higher classes I wouldn't work with them. They tend to contract with kindy and elementary hagwons or public elementaries. |

I'm using Footprint...
I heard they had quite a good rep... Anyone out there who agrees or disagrees?
Jesus this is tough country to get into. I'm having to call the UK to get my Uni to send me all of these flipping original copies.
Anyways |

Wait until you try and get them notarised!!
I have signed up with Footprints too. They haven't offered me anything that I am remotely interested in so far, however, to be fair I think this is because most of their positions are Public School positions due to start in March and I am quite picky where I want to be located.
Good luck |

| I don't know about Asknow... but if your looking for a good recruiter, I went through English Teaching Korea (http://www.englishteachingkorea.com). The job's good and there was good support while I was setting up. Good luck! |

| I used recruiters for both my positions. No complaints. Just understand it's their job to fill positions and collect cash. It's not their job to make sure you get into a "good school". |
