i really don't like chelsea. i mean, they buy up the best players, then hardly ever use them! Ashley Cole, after coming back from a 3 week hiatus about a month ago, looked like he couldn't tell the difference between a football and a watermelon. he eventually got his act together by the second half.

Shaun Wright-Phillips is under a longer-term contract and he's hardly used. how is he supposed to be ready to play for the England squad if he hardly has any match practice?

i was shocked to see that Robben was used as a substitute in the Arsenal match! he's one of the best players in the world (i loved him in the world cup -- reminded me of Gibbs, if he played on the right)

what kind of players (except the money-grubbing ones) would sign on at Chelsea now anyway? it's not like they'll get much time on the pitch.

and then there's the goalie situation. if it wasn't for Cech's massive injury, what were the chances that Cudicini or Hilario would have been put out there?

(i am, by the way, disgusted with the money that Arsenal fans --or was it Peter Kenyon?-- printed with Ashley Cole's face on it. players are for sale. clubs are for sale. it's up to the player to make the right decision, and very few seem to be doing it, with the exceptions of Henry, my personal favourite Gerrard, and a few others [i was also disappointed with the "not for sale" protests when Glazer took over Man Utd. it's a publicly listed company, you dolts! of course it's for sale! to the highest bidder! even if it's Martha frikkin Stewart!])

i really, really needed to get that off of my chest.

The second eleven exist to play the first eleven of clubs like Liverpool should they meet in the Carling Cup (or whatever it's called now). Lampard, Terry, and Makelele have started in almost every important match since Morinho took over. The same could have been said about Gallas had he not got upset for no particular reason. What happened to Duff was a shame but some players' careers get turned around by a massive injury in any sport.

At any rate, players who join know that they're going to be fighting with 22 of the best in the world for 11 positions, and yet almost everyone wants to be a blue. I'm just waiting to see when Steven Gerrard gives it a try. Very Happy

Sound observations, particularly about Shaun Wright-Phillips. The guy could be playing first team football every week for a number of high profile clubs, and guarantee himself a place in the England starting 11 too. However, he goes to Chelsea and is hardly used.

Spot on about the boy Stevie G too Exclamation Very Happy

he's a scouser through and through. no way would he join Chelsea. i'll be willing to make a wager on that, too!

I remember a certain Alan Smith expressing similar sentiment about Leeds when they were fourth in the table.

were liverpool ever in the relegation zone, i can see stevie making a move, but not to the blues. i think he'd be fab at Man Utd, paired up with Giggsy.

Sorry, but if Manure could ever afford him he'd end up paired up with that diver Ronaldo.

What are you talking about???!! There has never been a transfer from liverpool to united or vice versa. There would be no chance whatsoever of united signing Gerrard. Not that we'd want him to be honest. I'm happy enough with the one scouser we've got.

i didn't say he'd go to Man Utd, just that he'd be fab with Giggs. and i can't stand Ronaldo, for the record.

anyhow, i stand by this statement: Stevie G won't leave Liverpool unless they were in the relegation zone. he's a scouser through and through.

i also stand by this: Chelsea pisses me off.

I'm not the biggest fan of Chelsea of course, but Liverpool and Arsenal will always be the most offensive football clubs to us.

Quite right about Glazer too, KW.

The protests in the takeover era were embarrassingly bad. Complaining about the amount of interest Glazer seemed to be taking on was perfectly okay criticism, but "not for sale" (amongst which the same people who thought going PLC was a bad idea) and the Americaphobia and general doom-mongering paranoia that occurred was pitiable. Still not entirely sure what Glazer has in mind, however. Any ideas?

Great! Another excuse for me to post this picture.....

chav club. no class

On gerrard: lets not forget that pool accepted a bid from chelsea for him. gerrard agreed to discuss terms but couldnt come to an agreement...

its true that all players want some of that dirty money, stolen from the russian people. didnt freddy adu say chelsea were his favourite club in the summer? and look at that whole obi mikel debacle.

i think the interesting example is wayne bridge, been in much better form than cashley cole this season but wont get a game, just signed a new contract knowing that he will sit on the bench and be the new winston bogarde.

Im finding myself wishing that United win every game at the moment. terrible.

that really sums it up. I remember a few years ago it was impossible to have a sensible conversation about football with a man utd supporter, because of the extreme arrogance.

now its the same with chelsea supporters, but even worse. because they are chavs. Its Harry Enfield 'considerably richer than yao' type of thing.

at least United play good attacking football.

I don't want to slag Chelsea off too much. With that kind of financial power, we're in unchartered territories and United need to rise to the challenge.

The hatred of Chelsea is usually bitterness and nothing more. Abramovic didn't buy a ManU or RealM or other existing giant. He bought a club he saw great potential in which frankly doesn't even have a flattering history. I'm not saying I respect it, but I try to keep some perspective.

However I completely agree that Chelsea are overstaffed and this is bad for the national side potentially.

By the way, one consequence of living in Korea is being somewhat out of touch with my beloved footy. Back home I watched it religiously - Prem, CL, Serie A, La Liga - whereas here I often forget. possibly it's a habit?
