I want to buy and XBOX 360 but I'm not sure if I should just go to the stores here in Masan and buy one or should I import one from North America.

If I buy one in Korea will it work in North America? I mean, will the games I buy in North America work on it?

Will I have to do the whole "mod-chip" thing? I would like to advoid that but if there is any way, I would like to know.

I just want to know if the games will work. I don't really care about the DVD part of it.

I have a lot of reasearch to do.
Thanks a lot for the info.

The 360 is regional, so most games from korea won't play on a US system, and vice versa (there are a few exceptions though, to put the actual region coding on the game is the decision of the publisher). However, play-asia.com will ship you games from either region, althoguh I've never used them personally.

It's been a few months since I checked out the modding progress, so my info may be outdated. However, at the time, the only way to mod a system was to manually flash the bios of your dvd player to a hacked version (and it had to be a certain version of the dvd player too... I don't even think that all of the initial release were moddable, so if you're buying one now in the hopes of modding it, you should do some research frist and hope there have been some advances in the modding scene). Even for the best of modders this could be a risky thing though, so I wouldn't recommend trying it yourself (or even getting it done in Yongsan) unless you were willing to risk having to use your new 360 for a paperweight. Also, assuming this is still the case, you might have a hard time finding roms to play due to the likely small number of active modders.

The other warning is about xbox live. Really, the thing that makes the 360 great is the live features. Games are getting shorter and shorter because of the huge increases in dev costs, and now, about the only way to keep a game entertaining after the first weekend is to have live features on it. On game copies though, you wouldn't be likely to be able to use them on live. It's also possible that live could at some point detect the mod and ban your xbox from live forever. This happened to the original xbox. People eventually made a mod that could be swapped off and on so you could use the same console for roms and for live, but you still had to buy the games you wanted for live.

Anyway, maybe that helps, maybe not. Food for thought though.

Oh, you might start here http://forums.qj.net/
I'm not how good their 360 section is, but I know its pure gold if you have a psp.

I've also heard that the Korean X-Box wouldn't hook up to an American television because of some different method of coding the image... can't remember the technical term.

I just discovered this post today and I am also going through the same dilemma. Have those who did thier research have any articles or links they could point me to? Any personal experiences they have had?

The modded xbox 360 was quoted to me in Yongsan at just under 400,000 won. I am going to start the internet search but would appreciate any specific details people could give on current mods....
