Waitresses dressed as naughty nurses at Ariz., restaurant rile real nurses

Quote:
The Heart Attack Grill - a theme restaurant whose specialties include the Quadruple Bypass Burger and Flatliner Fries, cooked in pure lard - is making health-care professionals' blood pressure rise, and not because of the menu.

It is because of the waitresses' naughty nurse uniforms. The waitresses wear skimpy, cleavage-baring outfits, high heels and thigh-high stockings - a male fantasy that some nursing organizations say is an insult to the profession.

Several nurses have complained to the Arizona attorney general's office, and a national nursing group has repeatedly asked Heart Attack Grill owner Jon Basso to stop using the outfits.

"Nurses are the most sexually fantasized-about profession," said Sandy Summers, executive director of the Center for Nursing Advocacy, based in Baltimore. "We're asking people, if they're going to have these fantasies, please don't make it so public. Move these sexual fantasies to other professions."

Basso shrugs off Summers' complaints, and refers to her and her supporters as prudes, cranks and lunatics.

"If anything, I think it glorifies nurses to be thought of as a physically attractive and desirable individual," Basso said. "There's a Faye Dunaway, Florence Nightingale hipness to it. Nobody wants to think of themselves as some old battle ax who changes bedpans for a living."

At my university, there were typically Engineering/Nursing mixers, given the gender imbalance. One year the Engineering program's orientation guide made some mention about the nurses being luscious. The nurses hit the ol' roof. That ended the Engineering/Nursing mixers for rest of the decade.

I'm having a hard time imagining a bar done up to look like a library with "naughty" librarians. But I'll try. Very Happy Laughing Very Happy

Wow -- I spoke with the owner in the beginning of the year when it first opened (I was interested in franchising in California) -- and I was afraid something like this would happen, but he's doing a good job dealing with it so far.

Then there's the guy who runs Pink Taco...

Good lord. How low will people stoop to be one of the "offended" in our society? Complain to the AG about waitresses in a restaurant and what they wear? Is it illegal to wear a nurse's uniform in a restaurant?

I'm offended, so let's get the government involved. Makes me want to piss in a bedpan and have someone else clean it out.

Hehe-- I don't think the owner is feeling too depressed-- think of the people coming from all over the state to go to his restaurant out of spite for all the professionally offended people! Cool

The more people protest his restaurant, the more likely it is that there will be imitators in other places, and maybe there will be librarians, French maids, Catholic schoolgirls, albino receptionists, whatever the fetish..

http://www.heartattackgrill.com/

Here's a link since any thread mentioning naughty nurses without pics or links to said pics is just plain wrong. Oh, and the burgers look damned tasty too. Actually, one of my friends moved to AZ recently and sent me a link to their page a week or two ago, since there's one right by his house. I'm definately gonna have to visit and grap a quadruple bypass next time I'm in the states! He said if you get a triple or quadruple, one of the nurses will roll you out to your car in a wheelchair when you leave, haha. Exactly my kind of restaurant!
