How does one go about it? I know all the details as far as the U.S. embassy is concerned, but what about Korean immigration? What do I need to bring?

Cheers,
FS

Does the child have a Korean parent or are BOTH parents foreigners?
It makes a difference.

If BOTH parents are foreigners then you MUST register the child within 30 days of the birth AND you will need:

copy of the birth certificate from the Korean hospital
copy of the foreign birth registration from the embassy
baby's foreign passport
2 passport sized/style photos of the baby

ARC and passport of the WORKING parent

60k won for the baby's F3 visa
+ 50k won if you want a multi re-entry permit for the child.

Hope that was of help to you.

If one parent is Korean then the child is a dual citizen if you register the child with the US Embassy and the Korean parent's gu. By Korean law if a child is a dual citizen the child's foreign citizenship must be reported to Immigration. Upon reaching adulthood the child must choose one citizenship. Immigration will stamp a notation in the child's US passport that the bearer is a Korean national and must exit/enter Korea on a Korean passport. Failure to report dual citizenship is a criminal offense and can result in the foreigner loosing F-2 or F-5 status.
