I got a hardcore Korean Nationalist wife on board. That wouldn't be a problem if I wasn't a flag waving American ding-dong myself. Things generally go smooth when we converse but when she pulls out the "Korea is such and such" and I say "well America has this and this and it kicks Korea's anushole" thats when the problems start. She'll start bashing the states in an Ungodly manner...then I proceed to kick her down 3 flights of stairs. Seriously, what do you do in these situations? Do you take it on the chin, fight back like a nutbag, or reconcile your differences peacefully over a bowl of green tea flavored ice cream?

I don't hang out with people who are so blindly patriotic that they think all other countries are inferior. You sound like you're suitable for each other. Plus, a troll.

I think it's best to keep one's opinions to oneself sometimes. If I want to rant about something (never politics, in my case), I usually rant to a waygook friend/ co-worker. I used to do it on this board, but that wasn't going over so well.. Mr. Green

Is that you in your avatar, OP? If so, you look like Eminem. =)

Doesn't sound like she's 'on board' at all.

Try an extra couple of flights of stairs.

think you will find most people are patriotic and think their country is better than others..

what you wont her to say OHH OK USA is better than korean!!
then what does that make her??

and how do you look???

mate, just say YES! YES! but America has a lot of things for me to be proud of, and USA has contributed more to the world than korea has!
but Korea is a great country, and its your nation, and I want you to be proud of it..
dude just find a balance! without throwing her down the stairs!
you will not win! so you might as well just accept that!
dont keep arguing about it..she will NEVER back down!!
might get so bad,, Divorce will come into play!!
let it go..
deep down she probably knows USA is better.. but she doesnt want to hear it... she is korean and proud of it..
as you are American and proud of it..

No country is better than another; it just depends on what one calls home.
My reply for the OP's wife....why have....and why are......thousands and thousands and thousands of koreans wanting to move to the U.S. then if korea is so great?! Or moving for that matter to other countries? I don't see ANY countires' people beating down the doors to move to korea!
And least we not forget....the U.S is made up of immigrants and has more people living in the U.S. who were not born in the U.S. than any other country.
With a 5000 thousand year old history...surly korea cound have come up with inventions thousands of years ago....computers, electricty, cars, medical technology, etc...
or for that matter...why has it taken korea so long to come up with a space program?

It seems Americans have a hard time admitting there are good things about other countries. You can be patriotic and still respectful to other countries. Grow up.

Koreans will moan about Korea all day to each other, but never, ever, bloody ever, think that you can moan about Korea in front of them.

They aren't very mature when it comes to being criticised by foreigners. And before the apololgists come along and guff up the inevitable, 'how would you like it if a Korean criticised your country??!', well, I wouldn't mind at all. I know Ireland/UK has serious problems and lots of stuff is totally fecked up there. Let's talk about it. I'm not going to start crying a river because somebody sees something wrong with my country!

I agree with this.

And it seems to me the national past time of Canadians is to bash Canada at least when we're not playing hockey or drinking coffee at Tims.
